Testimony
The influence of thought on things by Eldon Taylor There is a little experiment that demonstrates the influence of thoughts on plants. This experiment involves taking two pinto beans from the cupboard and planting them, each in their own small pot. Label one of the beans “ugly” and the other “love.” For thirty days see that they get the same sunlight and water, but give the “love” much love. Speak to it daily and tell it how wonderful life is and how marvelous it is. By contrast, dump all the negative energy you can imagine on “ugly.” Remind it daily that it is ugly and despicable and will never amount to anything. In thirty days you will find that “love” has grown quite beautifully and “ugly” has struggled but typically is twisted and appears dehydrated or ill. Most know of this simple experiment and it is a very good one for small children. It illustrates just how damaging their anger is to the environment and how powerful their thoughts and feeling can be. Now here is a twist that may address the human condition, indirectly at least. Take the plant we named “ugly” and remove the label. Change its name to something like “Marvelous” and begin showering it with love and praise. Guess what--in a remarkable about face, our plant now named “Marvelous” turns from its twisted wilted way into a beautiful bean plant. Perhaps this is more than analogous to the changes possible in the human condition when a person begins to believe in their own power and abilities, worth and capacity to both succeed and contribute in meaningful ways to others. In my new book, due for release later this year, an entire chapter is dedicated to the thoughts in things outcome. From the influence mind has on crystal formations in water, including at least some of the liquid composition of the body, to the shedding of thorns by rose bushes told daily with love and care that they no longer need the thorns for protection, that they are protected and safe and secure. Now here’s a tip that may change your life for the better beginning today. This too is a small experiment that you can choose to document if desired. Look around you and write down the names of the people you know that provide you with support. They believe in you and know that you can do “big” things. When you have completed your list, put it away. Then make another list of all the people you know that are close to you. How many of them do you believe can do big things? Decide that every day for the next thirty days, you will go out of your way to tell at least one of them how much you believe in them. Indeed, make it a practice to reinforce the good in everyone you meet and to praise them for their efforts. Like the small bean plant, let them know that life is wonderful and they have a place and something special to contribute. In thirty days take that list of those you knew believed in you out. Look carefully at it and add all the new names that you now think believe in you. You will be amazed at how many more there are. The old proverb, “we reap what we sow,” is evidenced quite readily in this minor change to how one thinks and interacts in their environment. That’s all for now--thank you for taking the time and enjoy your summer! News Briefs
